The 2011-2012 school year here at Tufts has just finished up, and the ‘Mates have some BIG NEWS!
First off, the Amalgamates have won several Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARAs) for the year of 2011. Hands Off the Mannequin!, the ‘Mates’ twelfth studio album, was voted this year’s BEST MIXED COLLEGIATE ALBUM! Also, HOTM!‘s closing track, “Boy Lilkoi” (o.p.b. Jonsi, solo by Nico Gomez, arranged by John Clark A’96), won the BEST MIXED COLLEGIATE SONG. This is a HUGE honor for the Amalgamates and encourages us to keep producing quality music to share with everyone! We’re all very proud to be a part of projects like these, and the group would like to thank everyone who was a part of the production process–the album wouldn’t be the same without your input! As the school year finished off, we celebrated our seniors in a number of ways. This year’s seniors (class of 2012) were Gigi Rodriguez, Jenna Bjorkman, Ari Plaut, and Amy Norton. First, we celebrated them at their last big on-campus concert in Goddard Chapel. This year the theme was AROUND THE WORLD IN MATEY DAYS, and we each dressed up to represent a foreign culture. The seniors each sang their senior solos, and our juniors wished them well. We also hung around during senior week as we performed at Tufts alumni receptions, at the Boston Pops night, and at Big Gig. We sung-out our seniors and wished them good luck with some of our alums at the cannon as we do every year, right after graduation. We can’t to see you guys as you visit us as sketchy alums!
Finally, we’ve continued work on our untitled thirteenth album with Plaid Productions, and so far everything is on time for an album release at the end of this year! Keep checking in for updates on the album!
The ‘Mates are now on break for the summer, but we’ll be gathering back during orientation week at Tufts to sing for the class of 2016! We’ll be posting more information about tryouts a little later in the summer. See you then!
